Several years ago I was introduced to two classic comedies via my girlfriend at the time. The first sounds like a porno flick, Wet Hot American Summer, and the second was the infamous Empire Records.
And lately, I’ve become obsessed over a GREAT drama show called Brotherhood (Showtime). Brotherhood has several Grade A stars in it, but one of my favorites happens to be the rough-around-the-edges cop Ethan Embry. One of the first DVDs I owned was Can’t Hardly Wait (a blind buy) and Ethan’s goofy charismatic character really sold that film, and I still claim it to be one of the best coming-of-age movies ever made. For those die hard Ethan Embry (or Empire Record) fans, you’re also familiar with his work as the equally goofy Mark.
So it got me thinking, who else from that show really evolved into something else?
Well, honestly, just about everyone.
So I thought it’d be fun to write up a nice little recap highlighting a ‘wherearetheynow’ for one of my FAVORITE comedies.
And, as always, I don’t have to explain my art to you, Warren.
Anthony LaPaglia – played the drummer/store manager Joe, who can now be seen starring in the ever-so-popular Without a Trace. Had done a few films since Empire Records, but his CBS stint is certainly his most popular.
Debi Mazar – played Jane, Rex Manning’s assistant. She’s gone on to do a SLEW of stuff, most recently she can be seen cussing at Vincent Chase and Johnny Drama ala Entourage.
Rory Cochrane – played the ever popular Lucas lead character, who really the whole movie is set up by (just watch the opening credits). Rory has also found a home on CBS, appearing in CSI: Miami as well as several movies over the years, like Hart’s War and most recently A Scanner Darkly. In 2009, Rory will play opposite Johnny Depp in the gangsta film Public Enemies.
Johnny Witworth – played the astute A.J., and has lately found himself on several episodes of CSI: Miami as well. He also managed to snag a small role in last year’s 3:10 to Yuma.
Robin Tunney – played Debra, the girl who wasn’t afraid to show her feelings on the outside. Robin has also been CBS’ bitch as of late, most recently starring in the MOST successful new fall show, The Mentalist.
Renee Zellweger – played Gina, the whore, and well, as if it wasn’t obvious, she’s done quite well for herself over the years.
Ethan Embry – played Mark. Landed quite a few quality films after Empire Records, but as of late has done much more television work than film. Landed significant roles in Brotherhood and the canceled Dragnet remake. Was most recently in Eagle Eye.
Brendan Sexton, III – played the infamous cd stealing Warren. Has five films coming out this year, with a plethorea of films behind him, including the Oscar winning Boys Don’t Cry.
Liv Tyler – played Corey, and much like her onscreen superstar costar, little needs to be said here. Course, maybe it helps when your father is the lead singer of AerosmithJ
Clearly, this was the right movie to be apart of.
